Dictations serve many puposes. First and foremost, it documents the surgical procedure. It is useful for other treating physicians that may have treatments that may be affected by what was specifically done in surgery. It is useful if the patient needs later revision surgery at another facility. Finally, it is a legal document, and an accurate dictation is vital if a lawsuit should ever arise.
